Music Classes in the New Year, 2021

Categories :

Happy New Year music parents and youth! I can’t wait to get back to music classes! I know Winter Break is a much needed reset and rejuvenation, but I hope everyone is ready to recommit to some consistent practice habits in order to maximize your time in music lessons.

Quick note that applies to all classes: I will always try to conduct class in person if possible, so if the government does a shut down, I will probably postpone classes. If that isn’t a reasonable option, I will do as few online classes as possible. If online classes must happen, please help make it successful by sitting with your child as they try to participate online, in order to help them understand, participate, and correct any technical difficulties. Position the camera so I can see their face and their fingers on the piano (if applicable). Ensure they can see me easily. Make sure they are in a quiet room with no distractions. As always, if your child is showing any symptoms of covid, like runny nose, sneezing, coughing, fever, achy, etc. please keep them home and join class digitally. Contact me for details.

Below are the details for Spring Semester. Scroll to your type of music class for details specific to your group.

Sound Beginnings

Gold Stars

You should be able to download the semester CD – if you can’t, let me know ASAP! The more you listen to these songs at home, the more fun you and your child will have with them in class. It also extends the learning opportunity. My son learned his ABCs and gained a HUGE vocabulary really early because he listened to the CDs almost constantly as we both were learning them. I purchased a baby mp3 player and downloaded all of the semester CDs onto it. He carried that around and listened to it all the time!

Below you’ll find the class lists so far, please check to be sure your child is registered in the right class. There was some uncertainty about the schedule, but I ultimately decided to make no changes. Class sizes are still kept to 5 family groups due to Covid restrictions. I closed my Friday 5:30 class and have a waiting list for a possible Monday class, but I’m not sure I’ll be adding that class at this time due to a need to simplify my schedule. There is one spot left in my Thursday 3:30 and 5:30 class. Please share my info with any family or friends who might be interested.

Classes start the week of January 11-15th. If you haven’t paid your registration fee yet ($15 for one child, $25 for a family), please send that payment to me through Venmo @JudieMusic. Tuition is $140 for one child, or $180 for a family (children under 12 months are free). Tuition is due on the first day of class, or can be paid in four equal installments ($35/$45) the first class of each month. I will hand out a semester calendar and all materials on the first day of class.

Let’s Play Music

Red Balloons/Blue Bugs

I hope you all have enjoyed listening to your Blue Bugs CDs this winter! If you haven’t, start now! The more familiar your child is with the music, the more they will feel comfortable and LEARN in class. Below are the class rosters:

  • Gabe
  • Adam
  • Marilee
  • Colton
  • Kohen

Wednesday 4:45pm

Classes start January 13th. Tuition is $180 for one child for the whole semester. Tuition is due on the first day of class, or can be paid in four equal installments of $45 the first class of each month. Please send that payment to me through Venmo @JudieMusic. I will hand out an UPDATED semester calendar and all materials on the first day of class. The big change is we will NOT be having class 15 on April 28, or the recital on May 1st. Class 15 is being moved to May 5th and the recital is being moved to May 8th. I apologize for any inconvenience. I try to set my schedule early so families can plan, and will only change it in case of a personal family emergency, or unavoidable conflict.

Normally, parents attend Blue Bugs class every other lesson, but due to Covid, parents will only be attending the first class of the semester, until further notice. I will try to send videos to clarify anything you missed on future cancelled parent days. Repeat: ONE PARENT PER FAMILY WILL BE ATTENDING THE FIRST CLASS OF THE SEMESTER.

Green Turtle Shells/Yellow Arrows

I hope you all have enjoyed listening to your Yellow Arrows CDs this winter! If you haven’t, start now! The more familiar your child is with the music, the more they will feel comfortable and LEARN in class. This is even more important for Yellow Arrows than it has ever been in the past because we will be playing these songs on the pianos and being familiar with them helps children know when they are playing accurately and helps them decode tricky songs. Below are the class rosters:

Tuesday 3:30pm

  • Caitlin
  • Pierce
  • Brooks
  • Andrew
  • Jed

Tuesday 4:45pm

  • Violet
  • Adelyn
  • Kate
  • Bianca
  • Ellie

Classes start January 12th. Tuition is $220 for one child for the whole semester. Tuition is due on the first day of class, or can be paid in four equal installments of $55 the first class of each month. Please send that payment to me through Venmo @JudieMusic. I will hand out an UPDATED semester calendar and all materials on the first day of class. The big change is we will NOT be having class 15 on April 27, or the recital on May 1st. Class 15 is being moved to May 4th and the recital is being moved to May 8th. I apologize for any inconvenience. I try to set my schedule early so families can plan, and will only change it in case of a personal family emergency, or unavoidable conflict.

Understandably, winter break can be tricky to practice consistently. Please take this next 10 days to review and remind your child of everything they learned last semester. Particularly the Red, Yellow, and Blue chords. Remind them to ONLY use the 2nd finger on the yellow chord. Help them play through all the songs in their Green Turtles songbook. This will ensure they are ready for Yellow Arrows. This semester is faster paced and we add in the left hand really soon, so if they aren’t prepared they will get more and more frustrated and discouraged. Your student is officially half way through the 3 year LPM program and things really start progressing quickly. You’ll be blown away by how much your child learns in the next three semesters! They need your help to reinforce what they learn in class at home consistently.

Bridge

Classes start the 11th for Monday class and the 15th for Friday class. There was some uncertainty about the schedule, but I scrapped the idea of changes and I’m sticking to the same class times we had last semester. Due to unforeseen circumstances I had to close one Bridge class, but here are the rosters for the remaining two classes:

Monday 3:45

  • Adella
  • Charlie
  • Regina
  • Olivia

Friday 4:00

  • Sterling
  • Allen
  • Georgia
  • Marilee

Understandably, winter break can be tricky to practice consistently. Please take this next 10 days to review and remind your child of everything they learned last semester. Particularly review the last two lessons they completed in their workbooks. This will ensure they are ready for classes to start. If they aren’t prepared they will get more and more frustrated and discouraged. They need your help to reinforce at home what they learn in class consistently. The Friday class only has 6 lessons left before they are completely done with this curriculum!! Let’s finish strong!

I will hand out calendars on the first day of class. I try to set my schedule early so families can plan, and will only change it in case of a personal family emergency, or unavoidable conflict.
