Music and movement are great ways to interact with your child both in class and at home to strengthen the parent-child bond. But, playing, singing, and dancing with your child isn’t just beneficial for him; it helps relieve stress and boosts brain function in adults too!
Jupiter is one of seven pieces comprising Gustav Holst’s suite, The Planets. (A suite is a series of distinct instrumental sections that share a common element.) Our Smart Moves dance uses only the first couple of minutes from the piece. It would take approximately 7.5 minutes to play in its entirety. Another melody found in the middle of this piece is used for the British Hymn I Vow to Thee My Country.
Dancing along with (or even just listening to) short excerpts of classical pieces is a great way to help children develop an appreciation for classical music and expand their musical tastes!
Optional home fun activity: Color the “Jupiter Dance” on page 16 in your workbook
(Remember, these activities are optional but can be a great bonding experience to do with your child during the week.)
For my convenience, I have preloaded content for the whole semester. I will update each future post with specific time-sensitive info before I send the link each week. If you choose to read ahead you might see details that don’t apply to your child’s class. For this reason I do not recommend reading ahead. Thank you!
